No Man Can Love Two Masters # 152

1 Timothy 6:10

For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.Abundant living is not to be confused with the accumulation of worldly goods that can choke the Word of God in our lives. It’s a spiritual state where godliness with contentment is great gain.

God’s desire is for us to live in abundance that flows through obedience to the Word of God. As we seek first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. By obeying God’s Word, we obtain the favor of the Lord, becoming spiritually wealthy.

Those in defiance struggle to obtain and often lose what little they have by believing the lies and choosing worldliness over Christ. Through disobedience, they become spiritually dead and easy picking for the enemy.

The devil is like a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour. Covertly he seeks those with weakness and lust for worldliness. Lusting led to greed, an addiction that knows no boundaries and will never be content. Some have sold their souls to appease the additions and lose them in the process. Unable to quench the craving, some people have taken their own lives.

Among the twelve disciples of Christ, the enemy found a victim lusting for money, Judas Iscariot. Judas betrayed the Lord and sold his soul to the devil for thirty pieces of silver. His love for money was much greater than his love for the Lord. Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love. Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. Eventually, Judas was remorseful, and instead of coming to Christ in repentance, he went away and committed suicide.

Brethren, beware of the adversaries’ temptation that comes through earthly wealth to choke the love of God in your life. Be strong in the Lord and let your eyes be single by seeking the kingdom of God first. Remember, Jesus came that we may have life and more abundantly, it includes the riches of this world. Living in abundance is not evil, but the love of money is. No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
