Matthew 27:51
The veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom.
In the tabernacle of Moses, there was a room called the Holy of Holies. It was the innermost sacred place where the Ark of the Covenant dwelled. A thick and heavy veil separated the room from the ceiling to the floor. Once a year, during the Day of Atonement, the high priest was allowed to enter into the Holy of Holies. He would come to burn incense and sprinkle the blood of a sacrificial animal for the sin offering on behalf of the people. It was forbidden by law for everyone else to come before the presence of God because of their sin.
This was a part of their religious practice for hundreds of years from the time of Moses to the day of Jesus Christ. No one was allowed to go beyond the veil except for the high priest. This all changed on the cross when Jesus had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost. As the Lord’s body was displayed and torn on the cross, the veil was ripped in the temple. This old religious practice was no longer applicable, for Christ had established a new and better way.
Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec. We are truly blessed and highly favored by the Lord to have Jesus Christ as our high priest and mediator. Through His blood, the unworthy are deemed worthy. Those that were not of priestly descent, the Gentile nations, and the greatest of sinners now have access to His presence. Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh.
Brethren, by God’s sovereign grace, Jesus Christ became our living sacrifice. He destroyed the veil that separated us and became our high priest to represent us before the Father. By His blood, we are justified and no longer need a man to represent us. Now, the Holy of Holies is accessible to the redeemed. Therefore brethren, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely. This is the New Covenant, the new and living way provided by Jesus Christ, the sacrificial Lamb of God. Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. Come, our Father eagerly waits to be with you.
