Colossians 3:13
As Christ forgave you, so also do ye.
Jesus said, Son, be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee. Immediately the scribes questioned among themselves, Why doth this man thus speak blasphemies? who can forgive sins but God only? All authority belongs to God, and only He can pardon our transgressions. I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins.
The Lord forgave us, and as Christians, resembling the life of Christ, we must forgive others. It does not matter how great the offense if they repent, we must forgive them. Choosing to hold on to the offense makes us guilty of the crime. Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The healing process starts the moment there is a genuine letting go.
Many find it easy to say I forgive you, but releasing the act of letting the transgression go can be difficult. Refusing to let go is evidence of deeply hidden pain in the heart caused by the transgressor. Take heed and let it go quickly unless a grudging spirit enters the heart. This spirit will rapidly consume every thought until there is no room for forgiveness, only hatred. The unforgiving hearts often hope for evil tidings and revenge to fall upon the transgressor. As believers, we strive to honor the Word of God. And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.
Holding on to grudges is vindictive and is also an indication of a self-righteous spirit. God commanded us to forgive one another for Christ's sake; for this reason, having grudges is a transgression against Christ! Therefore, why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but perceivest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Is the crime committed against you worse than the crime we committed against Christ? If you expect forgiveness shouldn't you forgive others as well?
Brethren, it was our sins that crucified Jesus on the cross. We are guilty until forgiven by the love of God. Jesus said, love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. Love covers the multitude of sins. As we forgive one another, we reflect the love of Christ over their lives. Guanine forgiveness is an attribute of Christians.
